Workshops
Bookbinding workshops are regularly held throughout the year and cover a wide-range of subjects and binding techniques. The cost of each workshop is £75.00 which includes all materials. Classes run from 10:00-4:30 and are normally held in the Print Studio which is located next door to the bindery at 123 Main Street, West Kilbride. Maximum class size is 6.

Edge Decoration

Edge decoration is the art of applying a range of attractive finishes to book page edges. Techniques covered in this workshop will include; graphite, gold, printed, painted, tooled and coloured. Using pre-made text blocks, students will learn how to prepare the edges and apply a range of decorative surfaces with a burnished wax finish.

Decorative Papers

This workshop will explore some of the techniques used to create decorative papers. These papers are subsequently used in bookbinding to decorate the sides of bindings and form endpapers. They are also commonly found as decorative linings in boxes or slipcases. Techniques covered will include; paste papers, suminagashi and traditional marbling. (This is a repeat of April’s workshop).

Introduction to Bookbinding
