Workshops
Bookbinding workshops are regularly held throughout the year and cover a wide-range of subjects and binding techniques. The cost of each workshop is £75.00 which includes all materials. Classes run from 10:00-4:30 and are held in the bindery at 121 Main Street, West Kilbride. Maximum class size is 6.

Introduction to Bookbinding
22 June 2024 10:00-4:30
This workshop is ideal for beginners or for those who may benefit from a refresher in bookbinding basics. Book structures covered will be; pamphlet binding, concertina and a simple multi-section binding. Students will gain experience in sewing, folding & slitting, trimming, laminating, applying spine linings and casing-in.

Book Repair and Restoration
13 July 2024 10:00 – 4:30
This workshop will focus on the techniques used to repair and restore books and paper. Students can bring along their own book for repair or one can be provided. Techniques covered will include; rebacking, attaching new endpapers, stripping and relining a spine, reinstating worn corners and repairing paper tears.
Suitable for beginners.

Leatherworking

A day devoted to improving your leatherworking skills. Areas covered will include; knife and blade sharpening, knife and machine paring, setting-up and using a spokeshave, mitred corners, turning in and basic leather inlaying.

Paste Papers & Marbling

A fun-filled day of making a horrendous mess but also creating bright, colourful, sophisticated and elegant papers using methods such as; stencil, silk screen, coloured paste and traditional marbling.
